I had my first drink at 16. It was awful, but I powered through and got really good at drinking. By the end of high school, I had a reputation as the “fun party guy.” College only cranked it up. Drinking wasn’t just something I did... it was who I was.After graduation? Same story. No slowing down. I just added “scotch man” and “tequila guy” to my resumé.Kids came along, and alcohol was still there. Less wild, maybe, but just as present. Driving when I shouldn’t have? Of course. Countless brushes with disaster, legal trouble, even death? Absolutely.Did any of that stop me? Nope.Here’s the wild part: on my 21st birthday (while doing shots) I told my friends, “I really need to cut back.” Half-joking, half-serious. I knew even then it was out of control.Over the next three decades, I tried everything. Dry January. Sober September. Bets with friends. White-knuckling it through a few days or weeks. Even 0.25 of an AA meeting (hated it). I hit rock bottom more times than I can count, swore it off forever… and was drinking again by the weekend. Nothing stuck.Then COVID hit. Locked at home, I figured I better give quitting another shot before things got ugly. That’s when a friend handed me a book that changed everything: This Naked Mind by Annie Grace.Halfway through, it clicked. I didn’t need alcohol. I didn’t want it! No more struggle, no more “counting days.” The desire was completely gone. Instead of looking for reasons not to drink, I couldn’t find a single reason TO drink.The result? I haven’t had a drink since February 2020. I don’t crave it AT ALL. I don’t think about it EVER. I don’t miss it ONE LITTLE BIT!The even better part? I can show you how to do the same—without the misery, the white-knuckling, or the endless cycle of “quit, relapse, repeat.”
